The vital essence of all Dhatus (tissues) in Ayurveda is known as Ojas. It is essential for life and immunity. All living creatures derive nourishment from it and in its absence they die.

Its color is said to be like Ghee (reddish yellow) and it is said to taste like pure honey.

Just as honey is collected by bees from various fruits and flowers, similarly, Ojas is the nectar or essence produced from various physiological processes.

Why is this important for our immunity?

Because it is also known as Bala (strength) because it provides strength to the entire body at a physical and mental level, immune strength and resistance to diseases.

According to Ayurveda there are 7 tissues, when these 7 tissues are nourished by adequate natural and pure foods then Ojas is produced, which is established mostly in the heart.

What to do to produce and care for Ojas?

1. Eat healthy (sattvic) food, on time.

2. Do not eat too many bitter, astringent, spicy or dry foods.

3. Avoid stale foods and eating refrigerated foods on a regular basis.

4. Among the medicinal plants that increase Ojas, we have a group of medicines called “Jeevaniya Gana”. This is one of the best for improving Ojas, both qualitatively and quantitatively. *Consult Dr. Mariale Rivers for more information.

5. Quite importantly, a seasonal detox is recommended to speed up and improve the detoxification, absorption and metabolism process which will enhance the production and absorption of Ojas. *Consult Dr. Mariale Rivers for more information.

6. Avoid or treat erratic sleeping patterns, avoiding staying awake for long periods at night, stress, worries and emotional changes are some of the most vital things that can negatively affect your eyes. They should be strictly avoided.
